Setting Up a Blogger Account

Blogger is a free service for hosting Blogs on the Internet. This year you will be using Blogger to post your work and to look at each other's work in the net (some of last year's blogs are linked here). This post will run through the steps of setting up a blog and making your first post. Click on any of the images to view a larger version.

1. Go to www.blogger.com. Click on the orange arrow that says "create your blog now".

2. First you need to create an account at Blogger. Fill in a user name and password, as well as a screen name (the name you want people to see on all of your posts). Fill in an e-mail address, tick the terms of service box (read them if you want) and click 'continue'.

3.Now fill in a name for your blog, and the address you'd like it to have. Fill in the word for word verification (this is to make sure that the blog is being set up by a human and not by a computer for spam purposes) and click 'next'.

4.The next step is to choose a template- scroll through until you find one you like, select it and click 'next'.

5.Your blog is ready to use. Click 'start posting' to prepare your first post.

6.Type a title for your first post in the "Title:" field and type your text in the main white body of the page. Click on the orange 'publish post' button.

7.After a few seconds, this screen will come up. Click on 'view blog' to see your new blog.

8. You will be taken to your new blog screen. Once you are done, please leave a comment on this thread the so that you can be added to the list of Wits student blogs (more about that later). For more help, look at Blogger's online help
